Haiti Trip Rescheduled for Jr. High Students (August - Mostly DR Trip)

Hey Ignite Students,

We've had a great response from people about going to Haiti so we are splitting the team into two groups. The high school students are going March 13-19 and the jr. high students will be going in August. By that time in August we'll have more opportunities that fit well with the Jr. High age group like visiting orphanages. As of now, most of the ministry we'll be doing in August will be within the Dominican Republic ministering to the Haitians there. So this will be our normal DR trip - we probably won't be entering Haiti itself, but there will be many Haitians crossing the border and being relocated into the DR so we'll be visiting them there. We'll also do our normal DR ministry also as in years past.

If you have already raised money, that is fine. You can put it towards your August trip.

You can fill out the same application, but we'll be issuing new applications with new date info soon.

We prayed a lot about this decision and we are excited about the ministry God will give us in August. This will also allow more Jr. high students to come on the trip too.

Starting 09/30/09 they are allowed to join us at ignite! Every Wednesday from 7:30pm to 9:00 in the Teen Center. Bible Study / Worship / Small Groups / Games.

New Coffee Ministry Service Dates for 2009

WE ARE STARTING TO SAVE MONEY EARLY FOR NEXT YEARS MISSION TRIP:
Just to encourage you - this year in the DR the coffee fellowship money was used to buy a piece of property for a local church in the DR. They were in need of a children's ministry and the property right next to the church was available for 15,000 pesos - which adds up to $440 dollars. We handed that money to Pastor Manny in a powerful and emotional exchange and demonstration of God's love for the church in the DR. So this stuff really does matter! Let's do it well. Don't grow weary in doing good.

Once a month we will be serving the people of the church coffee and desserts. Please try and put these dates on your calendar and bring in backed desserts or bought desserts. If you can come in early to help us setup and be available before/after the 1st/2nd service that would be awesome! Here are the dates for the rest of 2009:

Got Milk? (Devotional)

Someone once asked a very insightful question:

"I wonder how old you would be if you didn't know how old you were?"

How true is that? Don't we all know people who look young on theoutside, but you would think they were extreme senior citizens by theway they act. Then there are others who seem old by number of years,but they are still as full of life as a child on a summer's day.

Did you know that every Christian has two ages? One is measured bytrips around the sun, and the other is measured by the standard set bythe Son. The difference is that growing old is mandatory, growing up isnot. That's why we have folks who have been saved for years, but stillact like spiritual babies. They were glad to get a free ticket toheaven, but getting off the bottle and out of diapers has been a realstruggle.

One of the main things that makes the devil's job a whole lot easieris believers who refuse to grow up. To look at it another way - here isa personal ad that I think Satan would put out today:

Wanted: Spiritual Toddlers

POD(Prince of Darkness) seeks PIB (Permanently Immature Believers) toserve as underground servants for his kingdom. Must know very fewverses by heart, pray only when in trouble, consider happiness a maingoal, are bickering, jealous, and quarrelsome, infrequently attendchurch, rarely tithe, rarely study Scripture, and above all must notshare the gospel with others.

Growing up in the faith is a big deal with God- listen to the way Paul put it:

Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you Icouldn't talk to you as I would to mature Christians. I had to talk asthough you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in theChristian life. I had to feed you with milk and not with solid food,because you couldn't handle anything stronger. And you still aren'tready, for you are still controlled by your own sinful desires. You arejealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that proveyou are controlled by your own desires? You are acting like people whodon't belong to the Lord. (I Corinthians 3:1-3)

Got milk? If you have only been a Christian for a short time, thengood for you. It shows you want to grow. But if you trusted Christ sometime ago, your diet needs to change! It isn't just about how much youread the Bible or pray- that's just the beginning. The point is thatall that studying and talking to God is changing you into a person wholooks and acts a lot like Christ. If your friends and family get aclear picture of Jesus when they see you, then you've probably beenchowing down on some serious spiritual sirloins!

So since you really don't know how old you are spiritually, how olddo you think you are? How ridiculous an adult in diapers looks to us-how much more silly does a supposedly 'older' believer sucking on aBiblical bottle look to Jesus?
So if you are ready to stop ordering off the kids' menu, here are a couple suggestions:

Go to church regularly and listen to the preaching. Take good notes and do further personal study during the week
Join a small group that holds you accountable and asks you the tough questions
Keep a journal that accurately charts your spiritual growth
Get involved in serving others on a regular basis
Have a set aside prayer time that is non-negotiable

Of course there are many other ways to grow, but if you even apply afew of these habits to your life- pretty soon you'll be wiping off themilk moustache and chewing on the delicious delicacies of maturity meat.
