Dominican Republic Missions Trip - Day 5 Update

Our last full day of ministry was very exciting. Most of the students were 100% and able to attend all the day's ministry. Shannon and I (Andy) got pretty sick last night and we weren't able to go with the students today. So that was a bummer. But God is good and now we can empathize with the students who were sick better now that we know how it feels

In the morning the students went to a sugarcane village to play with the children. They said it was "awesome" - I think it was one of their favorite villages. Our local missionary was very impressed with our students and how well they served at that village.

After lunch they headed to a sugarcane village that had a church in it that SCORE supports. We've met this pastor (Manny) for the past 3 years and it was great to visit him again. We were made aware of some needs that he had so we bought him a weedwacker and a rake. He was so blessed! He thought we were going to just use the weedwacker really quick and take it back with us - he didn't expect us to give it to him and said it was an answer to prayer. The students played with the kids in the village (many only babies that they were able to hold) and then the villagers started to shout that they needed to get inside. Our students didn't understand why until 10 seconds later the skies opened up and it rained so hard on them! They all sprinted to the indoor church building to take shelter. It was a blessing to get cooled off by the rain and the rest of the day wasn't very hot at all. God was good to send the rain. We left all of our supplies with Manny since we aren't visiting anymore villages.

One unforgettable moment for the students was when Pastor Manny was giving them a tour. Their church building was a gift from a lady who got saved under Manny's teaching. Manny showed them the property right next to his church and said that in the future he'd like to buy it to be a children's ministry building for the church. He said that God would provide for them one day. It cost 15,000 pesos. That's only about $440 dollars. When Manny was out of the room the leaders told the students that we had $440 extra money with us from the fundraisers that we had done (coffee fellowships). The kids got excited and prayed to confirm their idea. When Manny returned one of our students walked up to him with $440 dollars and said that on behalf of our youth group we wanted to give him the money to buy the property for his churches children's ministry. He was so shocked! He couldn't believe that God would provide so quickly. He was on the verge of tears. It was an emotional moment and the students were so blessed that God provided the money for this property. I don't think they thought they would be buying property on this mission's trip - but God wanted to bless this faithful church and he used our students to do it - PRAISE THE LORD! Jehovah Jireh our provider!

After that we had some free time in the pool, and then dinner. The students had one more mini field trip to do - we visited a local pastor in his library where he disciples future pastors. His name is Jay and Eric Morris and Frank have known him for years. I met him on our first trip two years ago. What a great brother. He spent some time encouraging our students about the great work they were doing and challenging them in their faith.

Now we have a bit of free time before we start packing our bags to come home tomorrow. What a great day even though I wasn't able to be with the students, I know by their faces that it was great ministry.

We'll see you parents at CCOB at 7:30pm. It's flight 753 continental landing at 4:30ish - but customs and baggage claim can be long. If we are going to arrived at CCOB earlier we'll try and call you on our way.
