Dominican Republic Missions Trip Update - Day 2

We had a great day 2 of our missions trip. Our morning devotions started in Ephesians 1 along with some worshop music in Engligh and in Spanish (to get ready for our songs in the village).

We headed out to our first sugarcane village after a simple breakfast armed with all of our toys and donations. As we approached the village on an old dirt road the students saw their first glimpse of the poverty that this nation can have. The homes were all constructed out of alluminum, cardboard, wood, plastic and whatever worked. The kids began to run after our bus all excited because the missionaries were visiting again.

We got out of the bus and were surrounded by 75 kids who all wanted to play with us. We walked out to a field and began tossing balls with them, throwing frisbees, using the water balloon launcher, jumping rope, handing out stickers, playing soccer and just having fun with all these kids aging from 1 years old through high school. We kept playing for about 1 hour with them. It was hot, but not unbearable. A nice breeze and some clouds helped us out.

A cool thing that happened was that Isabelle found a french speaking woman and talked with her fluently in French. How cool is God to allow communication in French between our teams in a Spanish country. You never know what God has planned!

After we had their attention we rounded up all the kids and brought them to the school. It was a tiny cement one room schoolhouse and we had 75+ kids there. Our students performed the skit for the first time and did an outstanding job! Frank narrated and shared the gospel. It was the most beautiful sound to hear all these children praying outloud along with Frank at the end. God must have been so happy!

We closed our service by singing Open the Eyes of My Heart in Spanish and then we handed out candy and bubble gum to all those who were there with us. They were very grateful. We got back on our air conditioned bus and headed back to score. What neat ministry.

Back at SCORE we had a much needed break and lunch. After lunch we all jumped into the pool to cool off.

In the afternoon we headed out to our second sugarcane village. Each village has its own unique feel, but it was similar ministry. As soon as we exited the bus this time all the girls from the village ran up to our girls and fell in love with them. They were brought into the shade of a tree and had their hair braided by all the village girls. It was really cool to see the connection they had.

We played with the kids for 45 minutes (the sun was really hot this time) and then brought all the kids to the shade (about 80+ kids). We performed out skit and song and it went great again! What cool ministry. Then we handed out baseball cards with the candy - they loved it! We headed back to SCORE - very sad to leave the village and hopped in the pool again.

Dinner was tasty and we had a scary visitor to our complex - a huge terancula! The kids loved it. It ran around for awhile before a SCORE staff member killed it. That was exciting.

To end our evening we walked to the gas station looking for some ice cream...but they didnt have any - so we got snacks instead. The students are now doing a Bible study on "Being Content" before going to bed. Thanks for praying! Everyone is doing great and God is using our team here.
