MISSION TRIP UPDATE: Day #6
Our last full day was great. After devotions and breakfast we headed to Santo Domingo to hand out tracts and bracelets in the city. The very first kid we handed a tract to started asking questions, asked for prayer, and then asked to receive the Lord! God is so good! The students boldly outreached in the street in our teams with leaders alongside them.
We also had a chance to do some shopping for some authentic Domincan products. They had fun bartering with the merchants. Dominic bought us some great fruit (canapes I think) and Denny took us to a local dominican place for lunch. The food was outstanding! While we were waiting for our food we got some coconut juice directly from fresh coconuts. Very fun.
After this we did some sight seeing. We saw Christopher Columbus's house. There are lots of statues of him here.
Now came one of the hardest, but most fulfilling parts of the trip. We went to the handicap orphanage to play with the kids. We don't have any photos of this because of the policy they have there, but I wish you could have seen the students loving these kids. Praise God there is a place here to take care of these special little ones. They require a lot of attention and they were getting it. Over 120 employees rotate shirts to help th 60+ kids. Most of the students were crying by the end of our visit, but it was good for us to see that and to pray for them.
We got back to SCORE to repack and headed back to La Romana. We dropped off a bag of goodies for the boys orphanage there really quick and then headed to our movie night at the girls orphanage. It was a welcome sight to see these girls again. They found their buddies quickly and the hugs began
Once back at SCORE we treated the kids to a pizza dinner on the sand of the beach at a local restaurant. They brought the tables onto the beach and we had a good time fellowshipping.
Upon our return we had a baptism. Half of our students were baptised: Dominic, Lucas, Emma, Gabby and Shana. It was an honor as Frank and I explained baptism and baptised them. All the students were excited and rejoicing with them! How cool is our God! We saw Him change the hearts of our students before our very eyes this week!
What a great trip. We leave tomorrow morning after devotions and we are sad to go, but excited to come home and share the stories of a wonderful week serving Jesus. Thanks for all of your prayers and support!!!
