MISSION TRIP UPDATE: Day #3

Well, today was the best day yet. We went to a girls orphanage today in La Romana with over 50 girls there. We brought them bracelets, made bead necklaces with them, put temporary tattoos on them, gave them stickers, took polaroids of every one of them, played with them, picked them up, carried them around, hugged them and loved them. It was very moving. They wanted physical contact so much and our team was great with them.

After that we visited the SCORE boys orphanage near by that had 9 boys. We gave them a Bible stories book, polaroids, and Shana prayed for them with Frank translating.

On our way back we experienced our first sugarcane tasting. You have to take a bite and suck the sweet juice out of them - very very tasty. A fun local experience.

We headed back to SCORE for lunch and some free time. Great food!

After that we went to another sugarcane village...but it started to rain. We prayed in faith that God would still give us ministry. We weren't expecting too many kids due to the rain, but they came from everywhere! The rain forced us to do ministry in the church instead of outside in the field - but that was perfect! We had 60+ kids from this poor village in the church. We gave them stickers/bracelets and baseball cards. They each got like 10 cards and were sooooo excited about that. The students then performed their skit. It went perfectly. It was very powerful and all the students were listening. Frank narrated the skit and then shared the gospel. Many children prayed to either rededicate their life to God or receive Him for the first time. It was beautiful! After that we gave every kid a whistle and oh boy...it was soooo loud. Too loud!

On the bus ride back from this village the students broke out in praise. We began singing to God for 30 minutes. It was beautiful. As we sang we looked out the window and were reminded of God's faithfulness as we saw a huge rainbow in the sky. The rain hadn't stopped the ministry...it enhanced. God knew all along.

It's great to see the students hearts start to change. We ended the night with devotions on the beach. I let the students listen to your voicemails and read your emails as of 9pm tonight. Keep sending them! They love it... Praise God for His faithfulness!

We love the pictures. It makes us feel as though we are right there with you minus the heat. You guys look like locals already... especially Pastor Andy. We pray that God continues to bless this team and the ministry that He prepared for you even before the foundation of the world and that God continues to bless the people of DR and the beautiful children you are meeting.
