Matthew 24:1-2
In thse verses Jesus predicts that the temple will be destroyed! He is giving a short term prophecy so that when it comes true it will verify his long term prophecy of the end of the age.

This was fulfilled 40 years later when the Jews revolted against the Romans in Palestine. In AD 70 Jerusalem was leveled by Emperor Titus. It is said that the last surviving Jews fled to the temple for protection and a drunken soldier set it on fire. The fire was so intense that the gold designs on the roof melted between the cracks in the stones. To retrieve the gold the commander had the temple disassembled stone by stone.
