Today we had one of our missionary guides share his testimony with us before breakfast (Michael from Costa Rica). It was really good. After our breakfast we headed out to a local DR church. They greeted us warmly and we had a fun meet and greet time before the service started. We sang spanish worship songs (they had powerpoint to help us) and then they shared a short devotion in spanish with english translation for us. They thanked our group for helping them purchase the land in their other church last year and for our help this year. After that we separated for an english Bible study with a missionary named Nate. The students really enjoyed it.<< MORE >>
This morning we headed to La Romana to visit the girls orphanage. It's a great facility that works closely with SCORE. The girls there receive a strong Christian education so our main goal was to encourage them in the Lord rather then present the gospel. There are about 80 or so girls there and one boy named Jeffrey (who is my favorite).<< MORE >>
Today we headed to the capital (Santo Domingo) about an hour away to do a few things. First we went to this huge straw market and we let the students go shopping for souvenirs. It was great seeing them interact with the Dominican merchants -- the merchants were very aggressive (in a non-threatening way) and were constantly waving the students into their shops. It was a bit intimidating for them - but fun.<< MORE >>
Our second day of ministry was LONG and fruitful. I only say long because it feels like we got so much accomplished today. We started the morning with devotions, breakfast and getting our supplies. We thought we had a work day planned with Pastor Manny at his church, but it turns out we were there to only play with the children in the town. It was a good thing we brought our toys just in case!<< MORE >>
IGNITE landed safely in the DR yesterday and the students were very excited to get started. We did a Bible study on the plane (and also watch some on demand family friendly movies). We are trying to get as many of you and your friends to meet up at a restaurant at the same time. It’s more than slightly funny to try and see the restaurant staff try and seat 50 people without a reservation. J
Cruel? It’s debatable, but I say no. Ultimately they will be getting hundreds of dollars worth of extra business from us, we will be acting loving towards them and on our best behavior, and if they want they can turn us away or seat us at separate tables. Invite friends! And TIP BIG please!<< MORE >>
SUMMARY OF THE SHOW: Of all the characters in the Bible, perhaps Joseph is the best parallel to the character of Jesus that can be found. During a time of an “eye-for-an-eye and a tooth-for-a-tooth” mentality, Joseph’s story of forgiveness and integrity has made this Bible story a timeless truth, inspiring generations of men and women to walk uprightly in the midst of great temptation. Sight & Sound’s depiction of this classic story will magnify the many qualities that make this story appeal to all ages.<< MORE >>

Read the New Testament in 1 Week! Sounds impossible huh? Reading 27 books of the Bible in one week? Well, it might be – but we are going to try! Its 3 hours of reading a day. Wow that’s a lot. But I think that it is worth it. It’s a challenge for sure – but wouldn’t it be cool to get a better understanding of God’s love for you and His plan for your life? You’ll still have ¾ of your day that you can do whatever you want.<< MORE >>

What is summer discipleship?
It’s totally optional. You don’t have to do it at all, but I think it’s something you will definitely not regret! Let me explain the heart of it for you. Basically this is a 4 week (once per week) commitment of getting together to grow in your relationship with your God. We’ll spend a 1.5 hours together getting to know each other and most of all learning to love Jesus the way that He wants us to as shown in the Bible. You’ll have fun! Read the rest of this page and then ask your parents if you can sign up!

THIS YEAR’S THEME: SEEING THE INVISIBLE GOD (1 John 3:2)
Christianity involves loving and following a Savior that we cannot actually see. But we do NOT have a BLIND faith! God has revealed Himself in many ways if we would just LOOK for Him. Proverbs 25:2 says "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter." But He won’t be found by the lazy. Hebrews 11:6 tells us “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”) This summer, learn how VISIBLE the invisible God really is. Jeremiah 29:13, "And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." 1 John 3:2 says that “…when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” That will happen in its fullness in heaven, but the more we see Him now the more we’ll be like Him on earth too!

Just to encourage you - this year in the DR the coffee fellowship money was used to buy a piece of property for a local church in the DR. They were in need of a children's ministry and the property right next to the church was available for 15,000 pesos - which adds up to $440 dollars. We handed that money to Pastor Manny in a powerful and emotional exchange and demonstration of God's love for the church in the DR. So this stuff really does matter! Let's do it well. Don't grow weary in doing good. We are scheduled for the following dates in 2009:
Sept 20, Oct 11, Nov 15, Dec 20<< MORE >>

Someone once asked a very insightful question:
"I wonder how old you would be if you didn't know how old you were?"
How true is that? Don't we all know people who look young on theoutside, but you would think they were extreme senior citizens by theway they act. Then there are others who seem old by number of years, but they are still as full of life as a child on a summer's day.<< MORE >>
